KUALA LUMPUR: The long awaited concert of the world’s best-selling boy band, Backstreet Boys (BSB) which took place earlier this month was a truly prodigious affair.
The concert which was held at the iconic Stadium Negara on 3 May, brought the house down during a two-hour rendition which featured some of the band’s most popular songs.
Hit songs “I Want It That Way” of the Millenium album, “As Long As You Love Me” fromBackstreet’s Back, “Drowning” from The Hits: Chapter One, “Shape of My Heart” from Black & Blue and “I’ll Never Break Your Heart” from Backstreet Boys were performed.
Diploma in Communication student Amir Luqman, 20, said, “I went to the concert and it far exceeded my expectations. It was absolutely phenomenal.”
Amir who was born two years after the formation of BSB, became a die-hard fan of the group since his childhood days.
Soon after the announcement of the concert by organisers Livescape Group back in March, he resolved that he would not miss the concert at any cost.
Despite the heavy rain that night, the one-night-only concert was completely sold-out and saw a massive turnout of 6,000 fans.
The concert held at the Kuala Lumpur leg of the group’s ‘In A World Like This’ tour, was held in conjunction with the group’s 20th anniversary.
Despite being in their mid 30s and early 40s, the group which comprises AJ McLean, Nick Carter, Brian Littrell, Kevin Richardson and Howie Drowning, were up on their feet dancing and entertaining fans who grew up with their songs since the 90s.
In addition, Carter, Drowning and Littrell’s talents of strumming the guitar while performing “Quit Playing Games (with My Heart)” from the Backstreet Boys album exemplified that they still had it in them.
The band repeatedly expressed their love for KL and thanked the fans for being supportive prior to ending their set for the night with an encore performance of “Everybody” and “Larger Than Life” from their 1999 Millenium album.
The Orlando-based pop band vocal group which was formed in 1993, have also previously performed at the PETRONAS Twin Towers @ Live 2013, which was their first performance in KL
